Exploring Montreal: Dusk on Downtown Murals by EL MAC / Gene Pendon & Antoine Tava

As a photographer, I love dusk and blue hour. As a photographer, I also love public art and more specifically murals.

So when I read that, starting June 12, 2019,  the Leonard Cohen mural located on Crescent Street would be illuminated, I had no choice but to head downtown Montreal and take the time to photograph this masterpiece by LA artist El Mac & Montreal artist Gene Pendon at dusk.

However, when I arrived on location, I found myself distracted by yet another stunning mural located just a few hundred meters away on De Maisonneuve Street by Montreal pop artist Antoine Tava.

Waiting on the blue hour, I chose to get started with a few photos of this brand new pop-art styled mural, which had just been inaugurated early May 2019.Moving on to the main course, I headed to Crescent street. Having photographed the same angle a few months earlier while on assignment for the New York Times, I couldn’t help but notice that, with the help of the lighting created by the firms Ombrages & Lumenpulse, the mural was really standing out in the pinkish blue sky of the city.Still waiting for the blue hour, I headed back to get a few more interesting shots that would feature both art pieces.9:20pm… My evening wasn’t done yet and now the sky had changed to that metallic blue I’ve loved ever since I started photography. Now, this series wouldn’t be completed if it didn’t feature one last shot of the Montreal skyline taken a few days earlier from Kondiaronk Belvedere!

Thanks for viewing!
