On Assignment: Retail Architecture Photography – Griffintown Properties for First Capital Realty

Following last year’s assignment for First Capital Realty at Place Viau, I was commissioned with a fresh batch of properties to photograph this summer.

As usual for this type of project, the most important aspect is to try and show the property:

  • at a busy time of the day,
  • with people walking around and
  • with buses (if relevant) and cars.

For the first property on the list, a Pharmaprix store, I wanted to highlight how close it was to another property and the fact that a bus line was present. I always use low shutter speed for this type of photography as the blur effects on the cars and people tend to give a better sense of movement. Now let’s move on to the property present in the background of the first photo of this series for which my client really wanted some photos at dusk. Because the building was quite tall, the second shot was built from two photos taken with a 24mm tilt-shift lens. For this last property, my client needed to showcase how close it was to downtown and also capture the development of condo towers on top of it. This part was shot both during the day and at dusk as the location can get really busy during late-week evenings.

Finally, I was able to complete this project by adding a few elevated photos taken at sundown and dusk from the 6th floor of the second building from this group.

Thanks for viewing!
